Accountability and Complaints

Leaders are not perfect people; they require support and care like everyone else. They are called to lead God’s people through their teaching and example, and to ultimately glorify God. Where this may not be the case, it is essential that the least-confident person in our church be able to make a complaint about the most influential person. These can fall into the following four categories:

Behavioural – leaders should live peaceably (1 Thes 4.11) treat all people gently (Phil 4.5), not show favouritism, (Ja2.1) be quick to listen and slow to judge (Ja1.19), and as much as possible, to imitate Christ (1 Cor11.1)

Integrity – leaders should live lives that are beyond reproach (1Tim3.2, Titus 2.7), they should not indulge in drunkenness, violence or dishonesty (Titus1.6), they should manage their money and their family with honesty and wisdom (1Tim3.3-4). What you see on the outside should be true behind closed doors (Acts24.16, Eph6.6).

Doctrinal – it is of the utmost importance that leaders preach the truth of the Gospel, and hold to scripture faithfully. There are disputable matters which we are welcome to disagree on, but most issues are clear from the Bible, and our teaching should be faithful to this. (2 Cor4.2, Gal1.6-9)

Abuse – leaders should not coerce, shame, or manipulate anyone either physically, by force of personality, or by claiming a God-given mandate free from transparency or evaluation. (Jer 23.10-11, Eze 34.10) If the nature of abuse concerns a child or vulnerable adult, please contact our safeguarding team.

If you would like to log a complaint, please fill out the form below. Your message will be received by the chair of church trustees, plus another trustee. To understand the process of how a complaint will be dealt with, whether submitted verbally, or using this web-tool, please see our complaints policy.
